Do you, or someone you know experience depression or anxiety? If so, you're not alone.
Why not try one of the new courses run by Halton Borough Council's Adult Learning Team and introduce a light-hearted approach to learning new skills through creative activities to help lift your mood and aid relaxation?
We offer a free short course which runs for a few hours, once a week for five weeks. Class sizes are kept small and the course includes group and individual activities that use colour, creative visualisations, sculpting with clay, being inventive with food, using music to feel good and various other creative ways to help raise your self-esteem. Each session is different so there is no pressure to attend all sessions.
Learners are fully supported throughout. Courses take place in both of our learning centres; The Kingsway Learning Centre in Widnes and The Acorn Learning Centre in Runcorn.
Wellbeing questionnaires are used at the beginning and the end of the course and, so far, our research shows that levels of wellbeing do improve throughout the course.
On completion of the course you will be offered a personalised progression route which suits your individual needs. We have various options available in personal development, creativity, employability, computing etc.
The only criteria for participating are that you have symptoms of depression and/or anxiety, however mild. (This course is not for those with severe mental health issues)
You can ask a healthcare professional to refer you onto the course or you can self-refer simply by contacting email@example.com or call 0151 511 7788, and leave your name and contact details. We will contact you and arrange a convenient time for you to come into one of our centres and enrol you onto the course and give you a chance to ask any questions or raise any concerns before the course begins.
The next course start dates are:
January 12th Tuesday afternoon at The Acorn Centre, Castlefield’s, Runcorn. WA7 2JE
January 15th Friday morning at The Kingsway Learning Centre, Widnes. WA8 7QY
Courses will run again in March 2016.
