Men might not be as good as women at talking about their feelings but walking football is proving to be a good substitute for help with male depression and loneliness.
The deceptively challenging game isn't just for middle-aged men who have hung up their boots, some guys have never kicked a ball before but are now finding the company of other men in their 50s and 60s a great boost to their mental wellbeing.
Stephen Wood, Halton Community Sports Coach at the Frank Myler Sports Pavilion wants men over 50 in Halton to try out the new Walking Football sessions this summer. "We have an establised walking football group that is full but we are piloting some extra taster sessions at the Frank Myler pavilion. All you need is a pair of trainers and a drink of water!"
The sessions will run on Thursdays, 10am to 11am on the following dates: 20 and 27 July, 3 August and 10 August. For more information call Paula Parle on 0151 511 8550 or go online at www.activehalton.co.uk
